Edra Publishing interviewed dental industry leaders and authors at the recent International Dental Show in Cologne, Germany.
IDS organizers estimated that attendees numbered 120,000 throughout the convention. This year marked the 100th anniversary of the IDS, which premiered in 1923. The convention featured innovations and new technologies in digital dentistry.
In this interview, Dr. Andrea Shepperson talked about her background in dentistry and her new book, “Managing Tooth Wear,” available for pre-order in April 2023.
“It’s very exciting, a very proud moment,” she said in discussing how she saw the hard copy of her book for the first time at the IDS.
“It’s been a two-year journey and I’m absolutely delighted that it’s come to fruition,” she said.
Shepperson said that she wanted to become a dentist when she was a teenager.
“I lived in a university town where my dental school is based, the University of Otago,” she said. “I had a job after school when I was about 15 to earn some pocket money in a group dental practice with some fabulous dentists.”
Shepperson said through this job, she got to see the diversity involved in dentistry and the hands-on aspects, both of which were appealing to her.
“I love the blend of art, science, materials science and the hands-on artistic aspect of dentistry as well as the psychology and interaction with people,” she said.
Shepperson is a dentist and educator with a referral-based clinical practice focused on managing tooth wear and interdisciplinary reconstruction of the worn dentition. Author of "Managing Tooth Wear: A Comprehensive Guide for General Practice," she graduated from the University of Otago and is the owner of Shepperson Education, a dedicated teaching facility on Waiheke Island in Auckland. Her educational events emphasize evidence-based clinical strategies and related implementation. Shepperson's responsiveness, use of technology and ability to distill complex concepts into pragmatic solutions help dentists prepare for the future. She has lectured globally, published articles and book chapters and taught many hands-on programs throughout Australia and New Zealand.
