Video: Dr. David Sarver passes the torch to the next generation of orthodontists

Edra Publishing interviewed dental industry leaders and authors at the recent International Dental Show in Cologne, Germany.

IDS organizers estimated that attendees numbered 120,000 throughout the convention. This year marked the 100th anniversary of the IDS, which premiered in 1923. The convention featured innovations and new technologies in digital dentistry.

In this interview, Dr. David Sarver talked about his background in dentistry, how he manages his well-established practice and his upcoming book.

Dr. Sarver's passion for dentistry began at a very young age.

“I really enjoyed my orthodontic experience," he said. "I grew up in a very small town, and my mother and I would take a train to about a one-hour ride to a larger city so I could have my orthodontic treatment.”

Sarver said that he saw how happy his orthodontist was, which was inspiring and led to him exploring a career in dentistry.

“That was a pretty easy decision for me, as I got into the school and as I progressed through it, I got even more and more enthusiastic about what I did," he explained. "What I do in my career is all about people and being helpful to people.”

Sarver’s upcoming book will focus on filling the age gap in the dentistry environment.

He said that his book is a way for him to pass the torch to the next generation who will take the lead in the orthodontic profession.
