By UCLA School of Dentistry News

Dr. Alan Felsenfeld, M.S., D.D.S. ’74, professor emeritus of oral and maxillofacial surgery at the UCLA School of Dentistry, was reappointed to the Dental Board of California by Governor Gavin Newsom on Feb. 6, with a term running until Jan. 1, 2027. The school announced the news earlier this year.

First appointed in 2020 and currently serving as the Board’s president, Felsenfeld is responsible for helping make decisions regarding statewide public health as well as overseeing 100,000 dental licensees across California.

He officially retired at the start of 2020, after 25 years as a full-time faculty member at the school and 40 years total. Felsenfeld continues to teach courses. He is a highly respected oral surgeon, having received several honors, including the distinguished service award from the California Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons in 2016.

After earning his D.D.S. from UCLA, Felsenfeld completed his oral and maxillofacial surgery certificate training at Chicago’s Cook County Hospital. He is a member of several dental associations and societies, including the Alpha Omega International Dental Fraternity, American Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons, American and International College of Dentists, American Dental Association, American Dental Society of Anesthesiology, American Institute of Parliamentarians, California Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons, and the California Dental Association.
