Dental consumables to grow to $25B

Katherine E. Pfaff

The global market for dental consumables is forecast to increase at a growth rate of 6%, according to the market analysis company, Medi-Tech Insights. The market was predicted to reach a value of $25 billion by 2026. The report defined dental consumables as bridges, crowns, biomaterials, implants, endodontics, periodontics, and orthodontics.

Growth was predicted based on the higher rates of dental and oral disease, an aging patient population, greater interest in medical tourism, greater awareness of the necessity of oral health, and a growing demand for cosmetic dental options. The high price commonly associated with dental consumables was expected to stem growth in the market.

With the proliferation of dental consumables, CAD and CAM technology can aid in the design of complex devices as well as streamline the patient experience.

“The rapid development of digital dentistry technologies over the past several decades has enabled clinicians to improve patient care by significantly reducing the time necessary for the restorative phase of treatment,” said an unnamed president of a dental consumables company.  “Advancements in intra-oral scanning and computer-aided design and manufacturing (CAD/CAM) will further boost the market in the coming years.”
