Oral hygiene space to grow in next few years

The worldwide marketplace for oral hygiene products is expected to grow during through 2026, according to a report by market analyst firm, ResearchAndMarket.com. The space was priced at a value of $41.26 billion in 2020. 

An increase in the market is expected based on growing demand around cosmetic dental care, and aesthetic improvements in dental appearance. The single largest driver, however, according to the report is the greater breadth of new and innovative products for consumers.  

As an example, products to whiten teeth are among the largest segments and are being purchased by consumers in the mid to high income range. On the other hand, high rates of oral diseases such as dental caries are adding to the market’s growth. Increased rates of periodontal disease globally are thought to be due to adoption of diets high in processed food.

By segments, the largest portion of the global oral hygiene products market is toothpaste, which is used to maintain dental health and reduce plaque and tartar buildup. When the market is viewed by geographic regions, growth is expected to be fastest in the APAC area, with North America second. 

At the same time, high income areas or regions with increased rates of disposable income are trending toward uptake of premium products. The trend also includes preference for natural or organic products that provide an alternative to traditional products.
