American Society of Plastic Surgeons report: Surgery boom includes maxillofacial surgery: ASPS

Katherine E. Pfaff

The organization American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS) reports in its annual survey that  surgeries are up after a slow down last year. The pandemic slowed elective surgeries in 2020, however, interest has increased after lockdown, perhaps fueled by time spent in meeting platforms which reflect the viewer’s face.

During 2020, maxillofacial surgeries ranked fourth most popular with 256,085 procedures. The national survey included more than 1,000 women.

About ASPS

The American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS) is the world's largest organization of board-certified plastic surgeons. Representing 8,000 member surgeons in the United States and Canada, the Society is recognized as a leading authority and information source on aesthetic and reconstructive plastic surgery. ASPS comprises more than 93 percent of all board-certified plastic surgeons in the United States. Founded in 1931, the Society represents physicians certified by The American Board of Plastic Surgery or The Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada. ASPS advances quality care to plastic surgery patients by encouraging high standards of training, ethics, physician practice and research in plastic surgery.
