Study of Medicare recipients: Healthcare aspects similar in rural or urban areas

Katherine E. Pfaff

According to a study on healthcare access by region (urban vs. rural), utilization, and Medicare, patients were largely happy with Medicare Advantage (84% rural, 93% urban) and the accessibility of their providers.

Survey respondents reported not using telehealth (rural: 68%, urban: 56% of urban), though interest is growing; 41% have used telehealth visits within the last year. Of those  patients who have enrolled in Medicare Advantage, 31% cited the reason as "I wanted vision, dental and/or hearing coverage under the same plan." The study, conducted by GoHealth, Inc., a digital health company, included 4,992 Medicare users 65 and older between March 18 and April 5.
