UCLA Dentistry Delegation heads to AADOCR Annual Meeting

By UCLA School of Dentistry News

The UCLA School of Dentistry will be well-represented at the 52nd American Association of Dental, Orofacial, and Craniofacial Research (AADOCR) Annual Meeting and Exhibition, taking place this week in Portland, Oregon.

According to a March 13 news release, 13 school-affiliated researchers will present their discoveries, including dental students, residents, postgraduates and faculty members.

Research topics will include the impact of alcohol use disorder on oral diseases among MSM who are living with HIV, setting the geroscience scene, the role of MMP-9 in periodontitis and cytotoxic effects of Ca2+ ions on dental pulp cells.

AADOCR includes a robust awards program, and its National Student Research Grouphas selected UCLA’s Dr. Karolina Kaczor Urbanowicz as its 2022-23 Student Research Group Mentor Award recipient. She will accept this honor – which is based on student nominations – on Thursday at 5 p.m. in the Oregon Ballroom 202.

Thursday and Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., attendees are invited to engage with UCLA Dentistry representatives at booth No. 64 on the floor of the Oregon Convention Center. Ask questions about the school’s grant-funded research programs, or simply pick up some fun, branded promotional items.

In addition, on Thursday from 6 to 8:30 p.m., School of Dentistry Dean Dr. Paul Krebsbach and Associate Dean for Research Dr. Yvonne Hernandez-Kapila will host a mixer at the Duniway Hotel. The school’s traveling delegation as well as alumni based in the Pacific Northwest will gather for hors d’oeuvres, drinks, and conversation about the robust research initiatives underway at UCLA.
