Edra Publishing interviewed dental industry leaders and authors at the recent International Dental Show in Cologne, Germany.
IDS organizers estimated that attendees numbered 120,000 throughout the convention. This year marked the 100th anniversary of the IDS, which premiered in 1923. The convention featured innovations and new technologies in digital dentistry.
In this interview, Dr. Christian Yaste talked about his background in dentistry and a new book in the works, “Pragmatic AOX.”
When asked how he decided to become a dentist, Yaste told Tommaso Albonetti, “My mother didn’t give me a whole lot of choices.” Albonetti is the general manager of Edra Publishing U.S.
Yaste said his mother told him he could either be an attorney, a doctor or a dentist. “Those were my three choices,” he said with a smile.
The dentist said fortunately for him, he loved to build things with his hands, including Legos as a child.
“Dentistry came naturally to me and it was the best decision I ever made,” Yaste said.
A typical day in his practice — which focuses on sedation, cosmetic and implant dentistry for adults — involves working with three other dentists. Yaste said that the other clinicians do most of the restorative care.
“I spend most of my time doing implants and surgery, and building prosthetics,” he said. Yaste also focuses on guided surgery.
His new book, “Pragmatic AOX,” highlights the use of a stackable surgical guide systems to perform full-arch implantology and rehabilitation.
Yaste said the new book, which took three years to write, can benefit a lot of people in dentistry.
“Originally, when I started writing it, my thought was: this will help dentists that want to enter into the space of full-arch implantology safely,” he said. “As I began to write it, I realized that it was also beneficial for laboratories that are developing these guide systems. They can see, from a clinician’s standpoint, what are the steps we use?”
Yaste said he also realized that his patients were interested in the workflow.
“It’s like a cookbook, how everything happens from start to finish, including the initial contact with my patients, all the way through to completion,” he explained.
Dr. Christian Yaste, D.D.S. is a graduate of the University of Michigan School of Dentistry. In 1996, he moved to Charlotte, North Carolina and completed a two-year postgraduate residency in oral medicine at The Carolinas Medical Center. Yaste is qualified in all areas of general dentistry but has also taken advanced training in cosmetic restorative procedures as well as full mouth rehabilitation. In addition, he is board certified to provide sedation dentistry. Yaste is a national speaker and consultant for several dental manufacturers and has been published in multiple dental journals.
