Dr. Cindy Cho was a 2013 graduate of the UT Health School of Dentistry in San Antonio. She, her husband Kyu Cho and their three-year-old son, James, were killed on May 6 in a mass shooting at the Allen outlet mall in north Texas.
The Texas Dental Association is honoring Cho and her family, including surviving son William, age 6, on its website.
A GoFundMe for William and family members raised nearly $1.9 million through 36,000 donations before the family decided to close it to more donations on May 11.
According to an update on GoFundMe, Won Cho, William's grandfather, has assumed ownership of the account and will continue to manage the fundraiser. In a statement on the site, Cho said both Kyu and Cindy's family will use these funds to help William continue the legacy of his parents. He thanked Kyu's friend, Annie, for starting the GoFundMe page.
In the May 11 update, Won said that William is at home and continuing to do well.
“If anyone wishes to continue their support, we strongly urge you to consider donating to the GoFundMe pages of the other families affected by this tragedy,” he wrote. The family plans to set up a trust which can be contributed to and will update with that information when it is ready.
