Texas A&M University President Mark A. Welsh III made a visit to Texas A&M College of Dentistry, learning about the 120-year-old institution and its people. In separate meetings with dentistry students, faculty and staff, he shared growth plans for both the university and the Dallas-Fort Worth area and answered questions.
He toured the College of Dentistry’s campus, including the patient clinic located in downtown Dallas. Welsh called its success both “phenomenal” and “remarkable.”
In a brief interview, Welsh stated that the entire Texas A&M System is responding to the thriving economic environment in a state that continues to grow rapidly and is a destination of choice for people nationwide. The tech workforce is what schools such as Texas A&M need to produce.
“It’s an exciting time to be in Texas, and it’s an exciting time to be part of a university whose job is to prepare young Texans to go chase their dreams,” he said. “It’s just a great place to live, work and learn, in my view.”
Dr. Lily T. Garcia, dean of the dental college, said it was a pleasure to host Welsh.
“Having him make time to witness our extensive clinic operations helped imprint how our dental hospital supports the clinic education program, Garcia said. “It is so important to see this in person to understand how A&M Dentistry has a great impact and reach in the North Texas region.”
