Krista officially began her role on August 19, 2026, bringing more than three decades of association and nonprofit leadership experience to the Academy.
The American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry (AACD) is pleased to announce the appointment of Krista Paternostro Bower, MPA, CAE, as its new Executive Director. Krista officially began her role on August 19, 2026, bringing more than three decades of association and nonprofit leadership experience to the Academy.
A Certified Association Executive (CAE) since 2008, Krista has led national membership organizations, certification boards, and professional societies throughout her career. Her areas of expertise include strategic planning, membership engagement, governance modernization, operational excellence, education, credentialing, and financial sustainability.
Most recently, Krista served as Chief Executive Officer and Executive Director of the Society of Dermatology Physician Associates, where she led significant membership growth, revenue expansion, and organizational transformation. She has been recognized throughout her career for her collaborative leadership style, commitment to member value, and ability to build high-performing organizations that advance their missions and serve their communities.
“I’m thrilled to join the team of the AACD at this exciting and transformative time in its prestigious history,” said Paternostro Bower. “As a champion of principled leadership, I look forward to working collaboratively with AACD leaders, volunteers, and the team to lead with transparency and integrity, driving sustainable growth and creating lasting value for the organization and its members.”
Krista holds a Master of Public Administration from Pennsylvania State University and brings extensive experience in association management, strategic planning, education, credentialing, and volunteer leadership.
Paternostro Bower’s appointment follows a comprehensive national search conducted by an AACD Board-appointed search task force. Her leadership marks the beginning of a new chapter for the Academy as AACD continues to build on its strong foundation and advance its mission.
AACD also extends its sincere appreciation to Dr. Brad Olson, who served as Interim Executive Director during an important period of transition and organizational change. Through his leadership, Brad helped strengthen organizational operations, support staff and volunteers, and guide meaningful change across the Academy.
His tenure also included leadership through AACD’s recently concluded Scientific Session, helping the Academy maintain positive momentum during a significant period of transformation. While his interim appointment has concluded, Brad will remain an important part of the AACD family and continue contributing to the profession and Academy.
With Paternostro Bower at the helm, AACD remains focused on its mission to advance excellence in cosmetic dentistry through education, Accreditation, and professional development.
The Academy will continue its commitment to delivering exceptional member value, fostering engagement, and providing world-class educational opportunities for its global community.
“AACD is entering this next chapter with tremendous optimism,” said Deputy Director Lisa R. Weber. “Krista’s depth of association leadership experience, collaborative approach, and commitment to member value make her an excellent addition to the AACD professional team. We look forward to working together to build on the Academy’s strong foundation and create an even stronger future for our members and the profession.”
AACD invites its members and the broader cosmetic dentistry community to join in welcoming Krista Paternostro Bower to the Academy.
