Welcome back Dr. Murdoch-Kinch! Thank you Dr. Lang!

Today, Dr. Carol Anne Murdoch-Kinch (at right) returned to IUSD as dean. She had been serving as IU interim chancellor since June 2023. She comes back to IUSD as Dr. Latha Ramchand begins her term as inaugural chancellor of IU Indianapolis today.

At the welcome back reception today at IUSD, Dean Murdoch-Kinch thanked Dr. Lisa Lang, who took the helm as interim IUSD dean.

“I knew this role was going to be a great fit for Dr. Lang because she came to IUSD with a track record of increasing levels of leadership and responsibility at several dental schools and was ready for this,” Dean Murdoch-Kinch said. “We are so grateful for her leadership as dean and also as associate dean of faculty affairs. I am so grateful for everyone at the dental school who stepped in and stepped up to continue moving the dental school forward and committing to excellence. I am very happy to be back at the dental school and look forward to reconnecting with everyone.”

Deans from the IU School of Dentistry have served as the first and last chancellors of IUPUI. Dr. Maynard Hine, dental school dean from 1945 to 1968, was the first chancellor of IUPUI, a position he held from 1969 to 1973. IU President Pamela Whitten appointed Dean Murdoch-Kinch as interim chancellor of IUPUI in June 2023 during the national search for the next chancellor of IU’s urban campus, which is undergoing a transformation to its new identity as IU Indianapolis.
