Pediatric dentistry projected to exceed $14B in next 7 years

Katherine E. Pfaff

According to a market research report from Grand View Research, Inc., the international market for pediatric dental care is forecast to attain a value of $14.13 billion by the year 2028. The increase will represent a CAGR of 5.5% during the report period of 2021 to 2028.

Growth in the market is expected based on the continuing improvements in technology used in dental procedures for pediatric patients as well as a higher number of dental diseases among these patients. In fact, dental caries took the largest share by segments based on type of disease; the dental caries segment made up 35% of market by disease in 2020.

By geography, North America made up the largest share of the market, again at 35% last year. The region was the most common utilizer of dental technology. Adding to that anticipated growth, 3D printing is a burgeoning segment in pediatric dentistry and is expected to grow, particularly allowing for dentists to create custom implants, sleep apnea devices, and prosthodontics.

When looking at the global pediatric dental market by procedure, the cleaning or prophylaxis segment makes up the largest share at 30% in 2020.
