Dental Instrument Imports Declined in 2025 Despite Growth Across Many Reporting Markets

Across 33 reporting markets, dental instrument imports fell 4.26% in 2025, while the median reporting market recorded an increase.

Combined imports of dental instruments and appliances fell 4.26% between 2024 and 2025 across 33 selected reporters with matching data for both years. The figures are based on UN Comtrade trade data accessed through World Bank WITS. The analysis and aggregation were prepared using the methodology supplied with the source material. A reporter is a country or economy that submits trade data.

The combined decline does not match the change for the typical reporter. The median individual reporter recorded a change of +2.57%. Removing the United States reverses the overall direction. The remaining 32 reporters together recorded a 2.68% increase. The combined figure is weighted by dollar value, so a single large reporter can drive it.

A separate comparison covers a fixed group of 37 reporters over a longer period. Their nominal gross imports rose from USD 4,138,258,210 in 2019 to USD 5,207,260,330 in 2024, an increase of 25.83%. This panel covers different reporters and years. It should not be joined with the 2024–2025 comparison as a single series.

What the figures measure

The analysis uses HS H0 code 901849, "other instruments and appliances used in dental sciences." The category excludes dentists' drill engines and is broader than hand instruments. It does not measure the whole dental consumables market or hand-instrument sales.

The selected reporters are not representative of world trade, and their figures are not a world total. Changes are measured in nominal US dollars of gross imports. They can reflect prices, exchange rates, product mix and quantities. These nominal values alone do not establish changes in real volume, demand or company revenue.

Reporters without matching values for both years are excluded rather than treated as zero. The 2025 figures reflect the data available at the time and may be revised. The study's 2026 edition uses a data snapshot taken on 13–14 October 2026, with observations through 2025.

Context for market coverage

Observed customs figures of this kind can sit alongside forecast-based coverage of the dental consumables market. They show recorded trade flows in one product category. The customs category should not be read as a measure of consumables market size, and the import changes should not be treated as a direct indicator of market growth or decline.
