HuFriedyGroup, a global dental solutions company with a more than century-long heritage of advancing clinical performance, today announced that Hu-Friedy Mfg.
The proposed acquisition represents a natural next step in HuFriedyGroup’s evolution from a trusted leader in dental instruments and infection prevention to a more comprehensive solutions partner for clinicians. Mectron’s technologies and clinical expertise will strengthen HuFriedyGroup’s ability to support dental professionals across prevention, implantology, and oral surgery, connecting precision instrumentation, advanced equipment, education, and workflow solutions within a broader portfolio.
The agreement builds on a commercial relationship established in 2023, when HuFriedyGroup began distributing Mectron-manufactured piezoelectric scaling and air-polishing devices under the HuFriedyGroup portfolio in the United States and Canada. Bringing the dental business into HuFriedyGroup would deepen that collaboration, create a stronger platform for innovation, and help make Mectron’s technologies available to more clinicians through HuFriedyGroup’s global network in approximately 100 countries.
“This agreement is highly aligned with where HuFriedyGroup is going as a company: bringing together the instruments, technologies, education, and clinical expertise dental professionals need to deliver better care,” said Robert Woolley, chief executive officer of HuFriedyGroup. “Mectron’s pioneering technologies are a strong strategic fit with our portfolio and expand our ability to support clinicians across the full continuum of preventive, implant, and surgical care. Together, we see a meaningful opportunity to accelerate innovation, broaden access to proven technologies, and create greater value for customers around the world.”
Mectron’s dental business adds differentiated capabilities in piezoelectric surgery, ultrasonic scaling, and air polishing to HuFriedyGroup’s established strengths in instrumentation, infection prevention, instrument management, conscious sedation, education, and clinical workflow support. The combination is expected to create new opportunities to develop more connected solutions for clinicians and practices while reinforcing HuFriedyGroup’s focus on clinical excellence, efficiency, and long-term patient outcomes.
The transaction also brings Mectron’s dental-focused commercial and research and development teams into HuFriedyGroup, adding specialized technical and clinical knowledge that can support future product development and portfolio growth.
“Mectron has built an extraordinary legacy of innovation by translating deep clinical insight into technologies that have changed dental surgery and preventive care,” Woolley added. “We intend to build on that legacy, along with the expertise behind it, and invest in the next phase of growth. This is not simply about adding products. It is about expanding the clinical problems we can solve and strengthening the way our portfolio works together for clinicians, practices, and patients.”
Under the agreement, Mectron’s Carasco, Italy, facility will continue to manufacture the dental range for HuFriedyGroup through a multiyear supply agreement following closing. A transitional services agreement is also planned to support continuity for customers, distributors, and suppliers. The arrangement is designed to build upon the manufacturing expertise and technical know-how that have supported Mectron’s dental innovation for more than 45 years.
The transaction includes Mectron’s dental business in Italy, the German subsidiary Mectron Deutschland Vertriebs GmbH, excluding its medical activities, and the dental activities of Piezosurgery Inc. in Columbus, Ohio. Mectron will retain its medical business and continue to focus on piezoelectric technologies for the operating room.
Closing is expected by the end of 2026, subject to completion of procedures required by law and satisfaction of customary closing conditions. Until closing, HuFriedyGroup and Mectron will continue to operate independently, and there will be no immediate change for customers, distributors, or suppliers.
