Changing oral hygiene lifestyles between continuous monitoring and innovative molecules

Gianna Maria Nardi

Monitoring home oral hygiene lifestyles is essential since behavioral change is strongly influenced by too many variables that condition its effectiveness and often the motivation carried out by the operator in clinical practice is limited by the timing available and often does not allow the It is an important moment to listen to the patient's needs.

In the personalization of prevention treatment, the important moment of sharing opportunities for behavioral changes must therefore be considered, choosing those technologies that can easily serve the assisted person for better adherence to home hygiene protocols.

The motivational approach must therefore find ergonomic and smart ways to follow the patient continuously, with quick consultations via telephone (see Digital Oral Hygiene Motivation Approach DOHMA - Prof. Nardi) and/or shared clinical images that support the behavioral changes.

Coaching support for the well-being of the oral cavity, an important role for dental hygienists, which allows the assisted person to be followed through changes and to maintain an effective patient-operator relationship. Important will be the choice of technologies that allow an easy approach to their use at home, which helps with behavioral change, taking into account the patient's experience, between work and family environment and systemic health conditions to require an approach in line with the same .

Choosing molecules that alleviate the pain of inflamed tissues and accelerate the healing processes, that can keep the eubiosis of the oral cavity under control in a minimally invasive way, preserve bad breath problems, maintain the brightness of the white of a smile is certainly a way to be able to help the person being assisted to change. Today many are involved in preferring products that contain natural substances and these needs must be listened to.

Home ozone therapy with ozonated olive oil (ialozon line) is a great resource as it offers the patient all these characteristics. It is also important to consider the needs of assisted people who are undergoing chemo and radiotherapy, who need continuous support and dedication with super-hydrating mouthwash and in case of hospitalisation, it is advisable to motivate them to use sanitizing sprays based on coconut oil. ozonized olive (ialozon clean) for sanitizing the oral hygiene kit in use.

Clinical practice must be supported by technologies validated by research and it is hoped that these new molecules can provide opportunities for experimentation as soon as possible in order to prepare new horizons for home oral hygiene therapy.
