FIRST IMPRESSIONS: DIRECTA Unica Master Kit

In First Im­press­ions, George Freedman, DDS, gives readers a brief summary of products that have re­cent­ly been in­troduced to den­tistry, based on his clinical experience.

The Polydentia Unica Master Kit, distributed by Directa USA, includes Unica Anterior and Unica Proximal matrices in 2 different sizes. Both are ultra-thin (0.03 mm) stainless-steel matrices designed for anterior restorations. The Unica Anterior matrices feature a contoured U-shape design to adapt to different anterior tooth morphologies, while the Unica Proximal matrices follow the natural labial, palatal, and proximal contours of upper and lower anterior teeth.

What stood out to me is the ability to select a matrix based on the individual tooth anatomy and clinical situation rather than trying to adapt one matrix to every case. Having Unica Anterior, Unica Anterior Minideep, Unica Proximal, and Unica Proximal Deep together provides useful flexibility when managing different tooth shapes and restorative needs. Minideep is particularly useful for conoid and triangular teeth, peg laterals, and teeth with a narrow cervical diameter.

From a practical standpoint, I appreciate having these different configurations together in one system. The ability to choose the matrix that best corresponds to the tooth morphology can help make anterior restorative procedures more controlled and predictable.

The kit also includes a selection of myWedge anatomical interdental plastic wedges. Their hollow V-shape allows them to compress and conform to the interproximal anatomy of the teeth, helping prevent damage to the papilla.
