Western U names Dr. Andrews dean of CDM

Katherine E. Pfaff

The Western University of Health Sciences, based in Pomona, California, has named a new dean of the college of dental medicine (CDM): Elizabeth Andrews, DDS, MS. The appointment was made effective August 15 of 2022.

Dr. Andrews became an assistant professor at CDM in 2008, not long after the school was founded. Since that time, she became associate dean of academic affairs in 2011 and in 2018 was named associate professor with tenure.

"I thank and congratulate Dr. Andrews for accepting this coveted position as Western U's next dean of CDM, and I express my genuine enthusiasm for the honor to work with such a distinguished academician," said Robin Farias-Eisner, MD, PhD, MBA, president of Western University of Health Sciences. "I believe Dr. Andrews to possess the ‘right fit-in index’ for the job: Dr. Andrews is the right choice, at the right time, with the right skill set, and the right academic credentials and experience, to lead the College into Western U's new era of growth, expansion, and transformation to a mature University.”

During her time at Western University, Andrews has mentored students who are conducting research, served as chair of the university curriculum committee, and co-chair of the admissions committee. She also is a member of the American Dental Association, the American Dental Education Association, the California Dental Association, and Tri-County Dental Society. Andrews is a fellow of the American Academy of Oral & Maxillofacial Pathology and a fellow of the Southern California Academy of Oral Pathology.

During her private practice work, Andrews was president of the Yosemite Dental Society, was a member of the strategic planning committee and trustee with the California Dental Association.

"It is my distinct privilege and honor to accept the role of dean in Western U's College of Dental Medicine," Andrews said. "This is a transformational time for the profession of dental medicine, the University, and the College of Dental Medicine.  I look forward to serving in this role with my esteemed University colleagues and College faculty and staff as together, we continue to strive for excellence in dental medicine education and patient service."
