Bits and Bites – June 2026


Welcome to the inaugural Bits and Bites, a collection of some recent news items around Texas A&M College of Dentistry.

Community impact

Dr. Lily T. García, dean, recently co-wrote the 14th edition of “McCracken’s Removable Partial Prosthodontics,” which is considered the standard in prosthodontics. Co-writers are Drs. Lisa A. Department of Public Health Sciences recently presented community outreach awards to several students prior to graduation. Recipients are as follows:

Megan Fletcher, Karina Lara Novas, Brandon Cashin, Christy Chang, Peter Doan, Armando Fernandez, Alix Mathew, Brandon Tran, Emily Tran and Youngju Oh.

Why it matters

The University of Texas at Dallas Pre-Dental Association recently presented a $24,000 check to the dental college to help provide care for patients who run out of money during treatment. The annual activities event Miles for Smiles raised a record amount this year.

Gracie Rangel, senior administrative coordinator in comprehensive dentistry; Dr. Amp W. Miller, recently retired professor and director of comprehensive dentistry; and Maryjo Rodriguez, project coordinator in comprehensive dentistry, on May 29.

Dr. Amp W. Miller III retired last month after 53 years at the college and his alma mater. He served in many teaching and administrative positions over the decades. His last full-time role was as professor and director of comprehensive dentistry.
