“When covid-19 entered our reality, Mats demonstrated a commercial power that broke new ground. With the idea of reducing aerosol in patient encounters, the product CareShield was developed. The idea and development of the product ensured the safety of dental staff and provided a safer environment for both staff and patients as any viral particles from the aerosol were caught by CareShield, rather than remaining in the air.  With a combination of drive, innovation and courage, Mats is developing not only the working environment for the practice but also the industry as a whole “

Mats Norman comments on the Gold Heart Award_

“I am deeply honored to have received this prize for a product that I am convinced is an important first line of defense against risk of cross contamination in dentistry.

The origin of the idea is the fear that our coworkers felt in the clinical situation at the debut of Covid-19 in early March 2020.

I realized that all dental practices have a unique equipment - the evacuation system - and it should be possible to combine this system with disposable protective equipment. I found a suitable PET-bottle containing orange juice and started experimenting cutting them into various shapes. When I found the right design, it was easy to connect the PET-bottle to the suction hose using impression silicone. 

I immediately realized that the prototypes worked as intended so got in contact with Orsing’s plant manager Nenad Trlin who developed the idea into at working product in record time.

Orsing had Careshield for sale within three months from I got the idea which I find is extraordinary.”
