AADSM Reaches 2,500 Qualified Dentists Nationwide

Growing national network helps patients find local dentists trained to provide oral appliance therapy for obstructive sleep apnea.

The American Academy of Dental Sleep Medicine (AADSM) today announced that 2,500 dentists across the country have achieved AADSM Qualified Dentist status, strengthening patient access to oral appliance therapy (OAT) for obstructive sleep apnea (OSA).

Oral appliance therapy offers a comfortable, clinically-proven treatment option for snoring and obstructive sleep apnea. The therapy uses a custom-fit oral appliance worn during sleep to help keep the airway open. Oral appliances are quiet, portable, and have high long-term compliance rates, which helps patients stick with treatment and achieve better sleep and overall health. Treatment is best provided by a qualified local dentist who can complete an in-person exam, customize the appliance, monitor comfort and fit, and provide ongoing care throughout treatment.

AADSM Qualified Dentists complete standardized education in dental sleep medicine that aligns with the AADSM’s evidence-based standards for practice. These dentists are trained to provide OAT in coordination with physicians, supporting a team-based approach to treating obstructive sleep apnea.

For patients, the growing network means more opportunities to receive care from a dentist in their area rather than relying on distant providers or one-size-fits-all approaches.
