USOSM Practice Earns AAAHC Accreditation

The recognized leader in ambulatory health care accreditation, the AAAHC has accredited more than 6,700 organizations since it was founded in 1979, but only a fraction of those have been OMS practices.

The Accreditation Association for Ambulatory Health Care (AAAHC) has accredited Momenta Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery, a full-scope oral and maxillofacial surgery (OMS) practice with two locations in Minnesota: one in North Oaks and one in Roseville.

The recognized leader in ambulatory health care accreditation, the AAAHC has accredited more than 6,700 organizations since it was founded in 1979, but only a fraction of those have been OMS practices. To receive AAAHC accreditation, organizations must meet the association’s nationally recognized standards of quality. A tremendous accomplishment in and of itself, the accreditation also signifies an additional achievement: the USOSM Oral and Maxillofacial Centers of Excellence designation.

“AAAHC accreditation is the last step in achieving the USOSM Oral and Maxillofacial Centers of Excellence designation,” explained USOSM CEO Doug Drew. “It takes tremendous work to complete, and we’re extremely proud of Momenta Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery and their unwavering dedication to their patients and to the OMS specialty.”

USOSM Oral and Maxillofacial Centers of Excellence Program

Founded in 2023, the USOSM Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Centers of Excellence program is the first of its kind. The program was created to recognize USOSM partner practices who consistently deliver superior patient care and clinical excellence, to encourage those characteristics in others, and to develop a culture of continuous improvement.

“The AAAHC is our third-party, accrediting partner, which provides additional oversight and helps to ensure quality control,” noted USOSM Chief Clinical Officer Vincent J. Perciaccante, DDS, FACS. “Our program is designed to recognize and support exceptional clinical excellence, including areas such as patient-centered care, patient safety, performance improvement, interdisciplinary education, excellence in communication, and maintaining the highest standards in ethics and professionalism.”

To participate, USOSM partner practices must apply to and receive approval from the clinical governance board, meet all eligibility criteria, pass internal inspections and meet the accreditation requirements from the AAAHC. Eligibility requirement categories include leadership, embracing best practices, exceptional patient experience, OMS community participation, and clinical excellence. To date, five USOSM partner practices have completed the program, with additional practices working toward accreditation.

Momenta Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery is a full-scope OMS practice with expertise in a wide range of OMS procedures. The practice has two oral and maxillofacial surgeons, both of whom are board certified, which is the highest credential that can be obtained in the OMS specialty, according to the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery.

The doctors of Momenta Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery are John Salek-Raham, DDS, MD; and Emad Abdou, DDS, FACS, FAAP. Patient safety and care is their number one priority.

“We always strive to provide our patients with the highest levels of quality care,” said Dr. Salek-Raham. “Programs like this can enable us to do that on an even deeper level, and that’s something we’re all excited about.”

Dr. Salek-Raham is trained in the full scope of OMS techniques and has clinical interests in dental implant surgery, wisdom teeth removal, corrective jaw surgery, facial trauma care, oral pathology and other dentoalveolar procedures. Dr. Salek-Raham earned his DDS from the University at Buffalo School of Dental Medicine and his MD from the Wayne State University School of Medicine.

He completed a general surgery internship at Ascension St. John Hospital and an OMS residency at Ascension Macomb-Oakland Hospital. Dr. Salek-Raham is a diplomate of the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery and is actively involved with a number of professional organizations.

Dr. Abdou is trained in the full scope of OMS procedures and specializes in treating children and adults with facial anomalies, including cleft lip and palate treatment, corrective jaw surgery, treatment of facial tumors/cysts and dentoalveolar surgery. Dr. Abdou earned his bachelor’s degree from Hunter College, and his DDS from New York University College of Dentistry. He completed a general dental residency at Wyckoff Heights Medical Center in Brooklyn, an OMS internship at Jacobi Medical Center in the Bronx, and an OMS residency program at the University of Arizona College of Medicine.

In addition, Dr. Abdou completed a fellowship in pediatric maxillofacial surgery at The Royal Children’s Hospital in Melbourne, Australia. He is a diplomate of the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery and the National Dental Board of Anesthesiology. He is actively involved with a number of professional and charitable organizations, in particular, nonprofits that provide surgical care for children with congenital facial deformities.
