FPA to Host 2025 Conference in Minneapolis

The Facial Pain Association (FPA), the largest patient-focused organization supporting all individuals living with neuropathic facial pain, including trigeminal neuralgia, is collaborating with the University of Minnesota to host the 2025 FPA Conference at the Graduate by Hilton Minneapolis on June 7–8. This marks the FPA’s first in-person conference since 2019 and the first held in Minneapolis since 2016. The conference will showcase a distinguished lineup of experts and cutting-edge research in neuropathic facial pain, including many from the University of Minnesota’s Departments of Neurology, Neurosurgery, and Dentistry.

The 2025 FPA Conference will showcase the latest research in neuropathic facial pain, targeted therapies, and surgical techniques, offering attendees a comprehensive overview of the field. Attendees can choose from two presentation tracks: one focusing on foundational information about neuropathic facial pain—ideal for those who are newly diagnosed—and the other on the latest innovations, treatments, and technologies for managing neuropathic facial pain. Both tracks offer valuable insights from various healthcare professionals, emphasizing a multidisciplinary approach to care.

“Most patients, when experiencing facial pain, go to their dentist first with symptoms that appear to be tooth-related but are actually neurological. This can be difficult to differentiate, leading patients on a long, painful journey. The University of Minnesota School of Dentistry is one of 13 dental schools that offer an Orofacial Pain program, which is geared toward diagnosing, managing, and treating pain disorders of the jaw, mouth, face, head, and neck,” said Dr. Donald Nixdorf, professor and director of the Division of TMD and Orofacial Pain and co-director of the Orofacial MRI Center at the University of Minnesota School of Dentistry, and FPA Medical Advisory Board member. “We’re excited to be presenting at this conference to not only help patients effectively navigate their facial pain journey but also bring education and awareness to healthcare professionals.”
