The American Dental Association announced on June 22 that Norman Kwong will serve as its vice president of Business Development and Innovation as part of the ADA Business Group. According to a news release, Kwong will champion business research, leveraging market analysis opportunities to develop and grow product and service innovation across the ADA and its subsidiaries. He will also be responsible for improvements to gross and net revenue, product and service efficiencies, and medium to long-term innovation efforts.
Under Kwong’s leadership, the Innovation Division will serve the product and service development needs and processes of the ADA’s dentist members and customers, as well as generate, research, launch and grow new opportunities, working with appropriate internal and external partners. In addition, Kwong will provide strategic direction, executive leadership and management oversight with results and accountability of the Innovation Advisory Committee of the ADA Board of Trustees.
"As I embark on this new journey in my career with the ADA, I am excited to bring my experience and diverse perspectives to the table,” said Kwong in the news release. “Innovation surrounds us, improving our lives, our communities and our global ecosystem.”
Kwong most recently served as the business development leader at Amazon Web Services. He joined Amazon in 2019 with 20 years of experience leading sales, marketing and business transformation within the consumer-packaged goods, retail and industrial/wholesale distribution industries. In his tenure, Kwong helped customers build brands that consumers love, increase organizational agility to react to market opportunities and drive digital transformation with proven, industry-specific innovations and solutions from Amazon Web Services.
Dr. Raymond Cohlmia, D.D.S., executive director of the ADA, acknowledged in the news release Kwong's depth of experience in developing successful products and services that drive innovation and growth.
"We are confident that he will lead new and groundbreaking efforts to achieve our business objectives," he said.
Prior to joining Amazon, Kwong was with S.C. Johnson & Son, Inc. where he successfully launched their Global Professional Division serving commercial and institutional channels as the Head of Sales for Customer Marketing. He also led various brands, developed innovative new products and drove category growth in S.C. Johnson’s consumer retail business. Kwong also has previous experience at Videojet Technologies, a Danaher Operating Company, and helped found the Business Architects Association where he served in various volunteer positions including on their Board of Directors.
He holds a bachelor's degree in business information and decision sciences from the University of Illinois Chicago and a master’s degree in business administration from the Kellstadt Graduate School of Business at DePaul University.
