Coronavirus disease: advices from WHO

Coronaviruses (CoV) are a large family of viruses that cause illness ranging from the common cold to more severe diseases such as Middle East Respiratory Syndrome (MERS-CoV) and Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome (SARS-CoV).

COVID-19 (COrona VIrus Disease-19) is a new coronavirus that has never been identified before being reported in Wuhan, China, in December 2019. It is still affecting mostly people in China with some outbreaks in other countries. Most people who become infected experience mild illness and recover, but it can be more severe for others.

Being a human-to-human transmissible virus, WHO has indicated some simple rules to follow to reduce the risk of contagion and to take care of your health:
1) Wash your hands frequently with an alcohol-based hand rub or wash them with soap and water.

2) Maintain at least 1 metre (3 feet) distance between yourself and anyone who is coughing or sneezing. If you are too close, you can breathe in the droplets, including the COVID-19 virus if the person coughing has the disease.

3) Avoid touching eyes, nose and mouth

4) Stay home if you feel unwell. If you have a fever, cough and difficulty breathing, seek medical attention and call in advance. Follow the directions of your local health authority.

5)Stay informed and follow advice given by your healthcare provider
