It’s National Dental Hygiene Month, which has a theme this year of empowerment, according to the American Dental Hygienists’ Association (ADHA). The Association said that the essential role of dental hygienists moved into the spotlight during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Raising awareness about dental hygiene during October offers an opportunity to empower hygienists and their patients with the information needed to achieve and maintain optimal oral health.
Dentistry33 editor Mary Guiden got a head start on feeling empowered about her oral health care when she recently visited Vero Dental in Denver for a cleaning. Dental hygienist Jenelle Johnson suggested her patient start using a Proxabrush® to clean in between her teeth twice a day, in addition to flossing. Johnson also provided a reminder about holding the toothbrush at an angle to remove more plaque, and to also use a soft or extra soft toothbrush to avoid further recession.
Free webinars launch Oct. 12
The ADHA has partnered for the third year in a row with Colgate Oral Pharmaceuticals, Inc. for National Dental Hygiene Month. To help advance the message about good oral health and to celebrate the dedication of dental hygienists across the country, the ADHA will offer three educational webinars.
Each webinar will offer continuing education credits and is available at no charge for the entire professional oral health community. The first webinar, “Learn how to Stay Agile in the Face of Change,” takes place Oct. 12 and is led by Lora Haines, a certified coach with JB Training.
“Be An Empowered Hygienist” features an expert panel and will be held Oct. 19. “Thrive Across Generations” will take place Oct. 26 and is led by Sabrina Smith from JB Training.
All webinars will be held from 6 – 7:30 p.m. CT.
