Video: Dr. Nick Fahey, author of “Guided Surgery: Making Implant Placement Simpler”

Edra Publishing interviewed dental industry leaders and authors at the recent International Dental Show in Cologne, Germany.

IDS organizers estimated that attendees numbered 120,000 throughout the convention. This year marked the 100th anniversary of the IDS, which premiered in 1923. The convention featured innovations and new technologies in digital dentistry.

In this interview, Dr. Nick Fahey, a specialist in prosthodontics and an expert in implant dentistry practicing in Woodborough House in Southeast England, talked about his experience this year at the International Dental Show.

“It’s great to be out and about and see lots of friends and colleagues from around the world,” he said.

Fahey said when he was growing up, he didn’t necessarily want to be a dentist. Initially, he wanted to be a veterinarian and, subsequently, his dad suggested that he become a dentist.

Fahey said his passion for surfing almost took him away from dentistry, too.

“I was a bit reluctant getting into dentistry from the get-go,” he said. But after about three or four weeks, “I was hooked on dentistry. No regrets at all.”

Dentistry is a hard and rewarding career, Fahey added. “With technology and the things available to us, it’s an incredibly interesting career option,” he said.

Fahey is the author of "Guided Surgery:  Making Implant Placement Simpler."
