The worldwide sports mouthguard market is expected to hit a value of $4,958.90 million by 2028, according to market research company, ResearchAndMarkets.com. The uptick would amount to a CAGR of 10.8% during the forecast period from 2021 to 2028. The value of the start of the period in 2021 was $2,419.89 million.
Growth in this market is anticipated based on advanced technologies in the space, a relatively high number of oral traumas from sports and the costs associated with such injuries. At the same time, a general lack of public knowledge on the importance of wearing a mouthguard may slow the market’s growth.
A 2019 study published in the Journal of the American Dental Association, dental injuries due to sports ranged from 13 to 39% of all injuries and 2 to 18% of maxillofacial traumas. Additional research suggested that the cost of treatment for dental injuries could be as much as two times the cost for treatment of injuries elsewhere on the body. Wearing a mouthguard may aid in reducing the number or severity of oral and dental injuries.
