GIA: Infection control products to exceed 4% growth

Katherine E. Pfaff

The global market for dental infection control products is expected to grow at a CAGR of 4.7% from 2022 to 2026, according to a report by market researchers, Global Industry Analysts Inc. With revised estimates following the impact of the pandemic, the market was valued at $1.2 billion in 2022 and is expected to reach $1.6 billion in 2026.

As with other areas of dental care, the market is expanding due to the heightened demand for treatment and procedures. Infection control is also boosted by an increased awareness and concern over transmission of infection.

Further, the sector is boosted by innovative technologies that have advanced the space, by additional planned research and development in the space, and by insurance reimbursements for the space. Adding to that, interest in cosmetic dental procedures has added to the growth in dentistry as a whole and attracted more dental professionals, according to the report.

Within the market, consumables are expected to reach a value of $965 million and grow at a CAGR of 5.2% through 2026. Equipment, which currently makes up 44.6% of the overall global market, was revised to a predicted CAGR of 3.9% across the next 7 years. The growth in the segment is expected as the market is impacted by technological innovations such as ultrasonic cleaning.

By geography, the US segment accounts for 35.19% of the worldwide market and is expected to grow to a 2022 value of $431.6 million. The US has maintained a high share of the market based on incidence of dental infections, aging patients, high amounts of disposable income, demand for aesthetic and clinical procedures, infrastructure of healthcare and insurance coverage, and product innovation.
