GIA: Clear aligner market to surpass $6B

The market for clear aligners is forecast to reach a value of $6.2 billion globally by 2026 according to a report by Global Industry Analysts Inc., a market analysis group. The growth would represent a CAGR of 19.1% from 2022 to 2026, and includes adjustment based on the impact of COVID-19. The market is projected to be valued at $3 billion in 2022. 

The US market is forecast to reach $1.6 billion in 2022, making up 53.66% of the market share by geography. By user age group, the market’s fastest growing segment is expected to be teenagers. The segment is growing at a CAGR of 20.8% and is projected to reach $5.9 billion in value by the end of 2026. The segment of adults seeking clear aligners was adjusted after the effect of the pandemic to a CAGR of 14.1% across the next 7 years.  

Clear aligners are expected to grow as the interest in orthodontic treatments increases, and clear aligners are seen as a preferable alternative to traditional braces. Teens in particular the aesthetics of clear aligners while also seeking to treat malocclusion and avoid the discomfort of metal braces. At the same time, rise in cosmetic dentistry has added to the boom in clear aligners as populations have greater amounts of disposable income and are seeking solutions to improve their appearance.

Building on the trend, the clear aligner system is accessible to various practitioners, including those outside orthodontics or dentistry. As clear aligner systems can be planned and manufactured by a supplier, additional healthcare providers can access the treatment. Clear aligner systems also continue to develop better technology and planning systems, adding to adoption rates.
