GVR: Clear aligners to exceed $30B

Katherine E. Pfaff

Market analysis company, Grand View Research, Inc., has shared its global report of the clear aligner market, which is expected to grow at rate of 29.5% CAGR. The forecast period for the report is 2022 to 2030.

Continued growth is based on the high incidence of malocclusion, named as the third most common dental disorder according to the WHO, said the report. Patients are increasingly seeking clear aligners as a method to address malocclusion. In particular, according to the report, adults make up the largest segment by age, followed by teenagers, all who are opting for clear aligners based on comfort and not obvious look of aligners.

About 5 million teens have utilized Invisalign, and an overall 10.9 million treated with the system through 2020, according to the report. Within that year alone, some 413,700 shipments were made for Invisalign aligners.

When dividing segments by geographic area, the North American market held the lead in the market in 2021 based on high demand, ubiquity of dental healthcare, and high number of companies participating in the market. The region has also seen an uptick in dental disease and patients demand a level of technical advancement.

By the segment on end users, the largest share of the market in 2021 was held by standalone practices, which most often take advantage of digital technology related to clear aligner processes.
