New Covid19 Vaccination Factsheet Updates

Editorial Team

The ADA has updated its COVID-19 Vaccination Fact Sheet to give dentists and dental team members the latest information on COVID-19 booster shots.

As of September 22, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration has authorized a third single booster dose of the Comirnaty vaccine to be administered 6 months after the primary series in the following populations:

• Individuals aged 65 years or older.

• Individuals aged 18-64 who are at high risk of severe COVID-19 disease (e.g., people who are immunocompromised or have an underlying condition that may predispose them to severe COVID-19 disease).

• Individuals aged 18-64 whose frequent institutional or occupational exposure to SARS-CoV-2 puts them at high risk of serious complications of COVID-19, including severe COVID-19.

Comirnaty was previously known as the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine and is FDA-approved as a primary vaccination series for all individuals 16 years of age and older.

The ADA will continue to monitor developments related to COVID-19 vaccine authorizations and administration on behalf of the professional and public. For more information, visit ADA.org/virus.
