Sebastiano Andreana, DDS, MS, a dentist and dental implantology researcher and educator, has been named inaugural director of the soon-to-open Center for Implant Dentistry at NYU Dentistry, effective July 1, 2024.
Currently Professor and Director of Implant Dentistry in the Department of Restorative Dentistry at the University at Buffalo School of Dental Medicine (UB), as well as the Executive Director of the Buhite-DiMino Center for Implant Dentistry and Advanced Dental Education at UB, Dr. Andreana received a Doctor of Dental Surgery degree from the University of Rome “La Sapienza” in 1990 and a master’s degree in Oral Science from UB in 1995. He previously served as a professor in the Department of Periodontics at Loma Linda University School of Dentistry and as clinical assistant professor in the Departments of Periodontology and of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at UB.
Dr. Andreana has conducted research in the fields of bone regeneration, dental restorations, endodontics, laser applications in dentistry, oral implantology, oral microbiology, and periodontal therapy, and has co-authored more than 200 published articles. He is senior associate editor for the Journal of Oral Implantology and serves as a reviewer for several peer-reviewed journals, including JADA, the Journal of Periodontology, and Clinical Implant Dentistry and Related Research.
Prior to his roles in academia, Dr. Andreana held various dental industry research and development managerial roles for Johnson & Johnson, Pfizer, and Ivoclar Vivadent.
"Dr. Andreana's demonstrated leadership, research, and mentorship in implantology and restorative dentistry make him ideally suited to be at the helm of our new Center for Implant Dentistry — an exciting, interdisciplinary initiative at the College that aims to advance our educational mission and improve the overall health of the public in New York City and beyond," said Dr. Charles N. Bertolami, Herman Robert Fox Dean of NYU Dentistry.
