Penn, dental and engineering schools join to create a dentistry innovation center

Katherine E. Pfaff

Philadelphia’s University of Pennsylvania’s Dental Medicine and School of Engineering and Applied Sciences will bring their collective expertise into a new venture with the Center for Innovation & Precision Dentistry, or CiPD. The joint effort is anticipated to bring research and technology together to speed treatment solutions, develop devices, and tackle unmet needs and gain funding for further research, training, and launch endeavors.

Devices, including diagnostics, are being developed along with treatments. CiPD will focus on meeting care needs in dental caries, periodontal disease, and head and neck cancer. The center will also train oral health professionals.
