The Massachusetts Dental Society (MDS) announced the appointment of Daniel DiTullio, as the organization’s director, government affairs and dental practice. Dentistry Today first reported on this story on June 28. The dental society represents more than 5,000 member dentists and is a statewide constituent of the American Dental Association.
DiTullio most recently oversaw government and community relations in the Office of the President at Assumption University in Worcester, Massachusetts, where he served as the liaison with all local, state, and federal government bodies. According to the July 13 news release, this will be a return to Beacon Hill for DiTullio, who began his career serving as a legislative aide and later chief of staff in the office of former state Rep. Harold Naughton.
He joins the MDS with over 20 years of government and community relations experience and has an extensive background in legislative affairs including positions in the public and private sectors and higher education.
MDS Executive Director Kevin Monteiro said that DiTullio joins the society at a pivotal time for oral health initiatives in Massachusetts.
“He comes to the MDS with a wealth of hands-on experience in legislative and government-related functions that will allow him to hit the ground running in support of our 5,000+ member dentists and millions of patients across the state,” he said.
In the role of director, government affairs and dental practice, DiTullio will collaborate with the MDS Board of Trustees to strategize and implement the organization’s legislative agenda. He will work closely with internal and external key players to influence public policy, communicate policy positions and promote MDS oral health advocacy efforts across the Commonwealth.
DiTullio said that he is eager to start contributing to the team.
“I followed the ‘Yes on Question 2’ ballot campaign and was impressed by the scope and effectiveness of those efforts in the fall,” he said. “For a ballot initiative to pass with more than 70% of the vote is a monumental victory,” he said.
