Massachusetts Dental Society to Host Beacon Hill Day on June 4

The Massachusetts Dental Society (MDS) is pleased to announce that the Society will once again host its annual Beacon Hill Day on Wednesday, June 4, 2025.

Members, partners, and advocates will gather to discuss key policies and topics aimed at strengthening the dental profession and improving access to oral health care for patients and communities across the Commonwealth.

Oral health is essential to overall health, and MDS’ advocacy focuses on expanding patient access to affordable, quality dental care; ensuring insurer transparency and accountability; and safeguarding patients and providers from unintended policy consequences.

This year’s Beacon Hill Day will engage policymakers and their staff on MDS’ legislative agenda, which aims to enhance cost transparency, prevent hidden insurance fees, reduce red tape for better access to care, strengthen the dental workforce to ensure industry stability and patient protection, and protect access to community fluoridated water.

WHEN:

  • Wednesday, June 4, 2025 | 10:00 AM – 3:00 PM

WHERE:

  • Massachusetts State House, 4 Beacon St, Boston, MA 02133

WHO:

  • Abe Abdul, DMD, President, Massachusetts Dental Society
  • Rich Rosado, DMD, President, American Dental Association

Expected legislative speakers include:

  • House Speaker Ron Mariano
  • Representative Tackey Chan
  • Representative Angelo Puppolo
  • Senator John Cronin

Bills Supported by MDS:

  • An Act Further Clarifying the Delivery of Health Care: Clarifies that the cost disclosure requirements and penalties under the 2022 Patients First Act do not apply to dental providers, recognizing the unique structure of dental care and insurance.
  • An Act Relative to Financial Services Contracts for Dental Benefits Corporations: Prevents insurers from capping fees on services they don’t cover, such as cosmetic procedures, ensuring fair pricing and professional autonomy for dentists.
  • An Act Relative to the Use of Virtual Credit Cards (VCC) by Dental Insurance Providers: Requires insurers to disclose VCC-related fees and obtain provider consent before using this payment method, protecting dental practices from hidden transaction costs.
  • An Act Relative to Office-Based Surgical Centers: Removes duplicative oversight that can delay necessary dental surgeries, improving access to care and reducing administrative burdens for providers.
