OBJECTIVES
This study aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of integrating laser treatment with CAD/CAM systems in restoring dental function and aesthetics in a 35-year-old male patient suffering from bruxism.
MATERIALS AND METHODS
A comprehensive clinical assessment was conducted, including radiographic analysis and intraoral examinations to evaluate dental wear and temporomandibular joint (TMJ) function. The patient presented significant wear on posterior teeth due to bruxism, along with TMJ discomfort. Digital smile design protocols were implemented to create an aesthetic treatment plan tailored to the patient’s needs. For the restoration, lithium disilicate ceramic materials were selected due to their superior strength and aesthetic properties. The CAD/CAM system facilitated precise fabrication of restorations, ensuring an optimal fit and finish. Laser technology was employed for soft tissue management, which included gingival contouring to enhance the overall aesthetic of the smile and improve the health of periodontal tissues. The treatment process involved multiple stages: initial assessment, digital imaging, design approval, restoration fabrication, and final placement. Follow- up evaluations were scheduled for 1 month, 3 months, and 6 months post-treatment to assess functional outcomes, aesthetic satisfaction, and any recurrence of TMJ symptoms.
RESULTS
The integration of digital smile design and advanced ceramic materials resulted in successful restoration of both dental aesthetics and function. The patient reported a significant reduction in TMJ discomfort, improved functionality in chewing and speaking, and high levels of satisfaction with the aesthetic outcomes. Objective assessments indicated that the restorations fit well with no signs of occlusal interference. The patient demonstrated improved oral hygiene practices post-treatment, contributing to enhanced periodontal health. No complications or adverse effects were observed during follow-up appointments. Radiographic evaluations confirmed stable bone levels around the restored teeth, indicating successful integration of the restorations. The durability of the lithium disilicate ceramics was evident through the absence of chipping or wear at the 6-month follow-up.
CONCLUSIONS
The combined use of laser technology and CAD/CAM systems effectively addressed the complex dental needs associated with bruxism. This interdisciplinary approach not only enhanced patient satisfaction but also contributed to improved oral health outcomes. The findings suggest that integrating advanced technologies into restorative dentistry can lead to significant benefits in managing bruxism-related complications. Future research should explore long-term effects on restoration longevity, patient quality of life, and potential applications in broader dental practices. Overall, this case highlights the
transformative potential of digital technologies in modern dentistry, paving the way for innovative treatment modalities that prioritize both function and aesthetics.
CLINICAL SIGNIFICANCE
The integration of CAD/CAM technology and advanced ceramic materials, such as lithium disilicate, has significantly improved the precision, durability, and aesthetics of dental restorations. These digital advancements allow for minimally invasive procedures, enhancing patient comfort and treatment efficiency. Furthermore, the successful rehabilitation of bruxism patients using all-ceramic adhesive restorations demonstrates the potential for long-term functional and aesthetic stability, contributing to improved oral health and overall patient satisfaction.
