Penn Dental Medicine Holds Day of Free Screenings for Veterans

Penn Dental Medicine joined in honoring those who have served our country with its annual Veterans Fair, opening its doors to Veterans for a day of free oral screenings and assistance in getting the dental care they need at Penn Dental Medicine.  The Fair was held on Friday, November 8, serving approximately 100 individuals that included Veterans as well as other members of the community.

“We were honored to welcome Veterans and all who we served during the Fair, and we want them to know Penn Dental is a place they can find care,” says Dr. Sean Meehan, Penn Dental Medicine’s Chief Dental Officer and a retired Navy Captain. “Our students, staff, and faculty did a tremendous job in making this day a success, and we look forward to continuing to serve our Veterans.”

On this day of service, Penn Dental Medicine students and faculty provided free comprehensive screening exams, including oral cancer screenings, as well as free x-rays as needed. Participating individuals also received oral healthcare information and supplies, and clinical staff worked with them to schedule follow-up care.

With the goal of supporting Veterans’ oral health care needs on an ongoing basis, Penn Dental Medicine offers Veterans a discount of 20% off dental care within the School’s clinics.  In addition, the Penn Dental Medicine Veterans Dental Care Fund covers costs depending upon Veterans’ dental needs and financial limitations. A special appointment line devoted solely to serving Veterans has been established at 215-573-VETS.
