From the night originates the light

Luigi Campopiano

Commenting on what happened related to investments in 2022 and what is happening is difficult. Personally, I have never experienced what we’ve gone through, but who has experienced it?

Will things soon change, and will the calm return to a world that now seems darker, in some ways, than ever?

A Neapolitan saying from Italy goes: “It can't get worse than the night.”

Katy Perry also sang in one of her hit songs: “After a hurricane comes a rainbow.”

Instead of starting from a concept of positivity, let's start from its exact opposite, the most negative outcome possible. I’ll analyze each of the elements that amplify the current state of negativity. With the pandemic and, for now, the energy crisis behind us, we must deal with:

  • The geopolitical transformation of the world, yet to be revealed.
  • Markets that are, for the most part, increasingly plummeting, in every segment and in every type of product.

It is in the darkest point of the night that we begin to see the light. Of course, the most pessimistic will say, “What if a nuclear war breaks out? What if Putin decides to drop his bombs on our heads?”

History cannot be made with “what ifs.” If the pessimists’ thoughts were to come true, there would be no more history to tell. However, let us remember that we have still risen after two world wars.

So why worry about it? We should worry about what we can face, about what we can directly impact: the wrong choices that we risk making today can transform the future into a day of light or into a dark winter.

Because if the world doesn't really end tomorrow, if we let fear guide us, it is as if the world really ends. And when the night is over, because it will pass, our very own world will remain enveloped in darkness.

My advice? Turn off the TV, delete news apps from your phones. Get outdoors and look at life around you, take a deep breath, and rest assured that the night and darkness will pass.
