How will clinicians get compensated for using artificial intelligence (AI)? How can health care systems decide whether to deploy AI systems? How should AI companies plan for adoption of this technology by health care providers?
As AI is rapidly integrated into medicine, it has the potential to improve clinical outcomes and change the practice of health care. Yet questions remain about how AI services will be covered and reimbursed, and by what value metrics. Given the lack of current regulatory guidance, stakeholders across the health care AI landscape are struggling to define how much incremental value is provided by AI systems and how this value applies to a fee-for-service system.
