SmileCon 2022 in Houston: Oct. 13-15

The American Dental Association holds its annual meeting Oct. 13 to 15 in Houston in conjunction with the Texas Dental Association Meeting and the Greater Houston Dental Society's Star of the South Dental Meeting. 

Renowned author Brené Brown will kick off SmileCon with a talk on how dentists and other professionals can share their most authentic self with the world. Her TED talk on the “Power of Vulnerability” is one of the top five most-viewed TED talks in the world, with over 50 million views. ADA members will also share uplifting stories as part of the opening session. 

Brown is a research professor at the University of Houston, where she serves as the Huffington Foundation Endowed Chair at the Graduate College of Social Work. She is also a visiting professor in management at the University of Texas at Austin McCombs School of Business. Read more about her background in the ADA's news release. 

Dr. Robert Skinner, DDS and SmileCon 2022 chair said in a news release published earlier this year that this is the first time that the ADA has partnered with the Texas Dental Association and a Texas component district, the Greater Houston Dental Society. “Collaboratively, all three entities are set to put on an awesome meeting," he said.

The ADA will offer a variety of continuing education courses with themes of Art & Design, Science & Technology, the Business of Dentistry and the Common Good. SmileCon will also feature a Women in Dentistry Leadership Series and the Shinbori Acclaimed Educator Series. 

Houston is home to the Johnson Space Center, where NASA conducts its mission control operations and astronaut training, as well as multiple professional sports teams, including the Astros, Texans and Rockets. It also houses Texas Medical Center, which is the largest medical complex in the world, and the Galleria, which is the largest shopping mall in Texas, featuring more than 375 stores, two hotels and an ice-skating rink.
