Watson Guide wins patent for full arch implant guide

Katherine E. Pfaff

A patent has been awarded for a device for full arch implant-guided surgery. The patent was awarded to medical device company, Watson Guide I.P, LLC, for its techniques and apparatus, which includes a base to affix and mount guides in order to restore several teeth.

"We believe this to be is the most exhaustive and detailed patent on full arch guided surgery in dentistry today. The patent reflects the near decade spent in consistent R&D and field testing. At this stage." said BJ Kowalski, chief executive officer of ROE Dental Laboratory. Roe, in partnership with Watson Guide, manufactures the company’s brand, CHROME GuidedSMILE.

Seeking a patent was necessary to differentiate the device from would-be competitors.

"The highly engineered effectiveness of CHROME GuideSMILE has been apparent to many in the dental manufacturing world and has resulted in numerous unlicensed versions of the design,” said Jay Watson, inventor, and chief executive officer of Watson Guide I.P LLC. “We are delighted that this issuance of US patent 11,173,016 clears up any ambiguity concerning the first-to-market innovations that CHROME GuidedSMILE has brought to the dental community."
