Distributor taking pre-orders for Finnish wireless intraoral x-ray sensor

Katherine E. Pfaff

Freedom Technologies Group, LLC, a collaboration of manufacturer, Athlos Oy, dental experts, and investors, has opened the US online preordering of the DC-Air™, a wireless intraoral x-ray senor. The sensor was developed by Finland-based Athlos Oy, which won FDA 510(k) clearance in July for the device.

"Finland is a country with age-old corporate history producing premium dental X-ray imaging technology,” said Konstantinos Spartiotis, Ph.D., chief executive officer of Athlos Oy. “Athlos is no exception to the rule with an expert team in direct conversion X-ray imaging. The DC-Air is truly the first wireless intraoral sensor with Bluetooth® and direct-conversion technology. In tandem with its unique holders for optimal comfort, the DC-Air brings outstanding image quality, in real-time, without the wire. It's incredible to be a part of developing this technology for improved workflow for the practices, safety, and comfort of the patients."

The DC-Air device aims to provide the necessary utility of an intraoral x-ray while also eliminating wires and improving the durability of sensors and the clarity of images. The device also provides more physically comfortable use for the patient and professional managing the imaging process.

"The DC-Air is the first digital sensor to match the resolution of the film and the comfort and convenience of phosphor plates,” said Dr. Robert Sachs, a chief clinical officer at FTG. “It does so in a more durable and easier-to-use package. It took years of work with direct input from leading physicists and clinicians on the cutting edge of dental technology to develop, test, and refine DC-Air™ to the world class product it is today. Over the past few weeks, since FDA approval, beta-testing of the DC-Air has received stellar feedback from practitioners and patients alike."
