Ivoclar Unveils New Versatile Universal Adhesive

Adhese 2 can be applied directly from the VivaPen in dual-cure mode without an additional activator.

Ivoclar’s newest adhesive, Adhese 2, expands the company’s portfolio with a universal adhesive that combines light- and dual-curing capabilities in a single product. As the first adhesive that can be applied directly from the VivaPen in dual-cure mode without an additional activator, Adhese 2 offers greater clinical flexibility, efficiency, and simplicity for everyday practice.

Designed to streamline clinical workflows, the new material can be used with all etching techniques and is compatible with both light- and dual-curing composites. A new innovative blue DC cannula enables direct application of a dual-curing adhesive from Ivoclar’s VivaPen delivery, eliminating the need for a separate dual-cure activator.

“With Adhese 2 in the VivaPen and the new option for dual-curing applications, we significantly expand the clinical range of applications: Dentists can now cover an even broader range of clinical situations with a single adhesive. This simplifies clinical workflows and increases efficiency–a clear benefit for every practice,” Georg Musil, Global Commercial Product Manager at Ivoclar, stated in Tuesday’s press release introducing Adhese 2.

Maximum Clinical Flexibility with Variolink Esthetic DC When used with the blue DC cannula and the company’s Variolink Esthetic DC, Adhese 2 delivers reliable polymerization even in light-limited situations, such as indirect restorations and endodontic posts. The system provides consistently high bond strengths on enamel and dentin, regardless of the etching technique used.

Reliable and Clinically Safe Adhese 2 delivers consistently high bond strength values (> 25 MPa) on enamel and dentin, regardless of the etching protocol used. (In combination with Tetric plus Fill, Tetric plus Flow and Variolink Esthetic DC). Its high moisture tolerance is said to ensure a consistently strong adhesion on both dry and moist dentin, while the integrated desensitizing effect reduces the risk of postoperative sensitivity.

Precision and Efficiency With an ultra-thin film thickness of approximately 10 μm, Adhese 2 supports the precise fit of indirect restorations and seamless integration of direct restorations. The VivaPen delivery system enables controlled, material-saving application and provides up to 4X more single-tooth applications per milliliter than traditional bottle systems. Additionally, short curing times further support efficient workflows.
