Green oral care company, Cocofloss, has launched a sustainable toothbrush made from recycled plastic. The toothbrush uses micro-bristles, which are 16 times more effective at cleaning teeth than a typical toothbrush, according to the company. The bristles are 40% more fine than a standard toothbrush and reach under the gumline and other hard-to-reach areas of the mouth, according to Cocofloss.
The toothbrush also has a recycled plastic handle made of trash that was plucked from the environment before reaching the ocean. The recycling program is a collaboration between Cocofloss and Oceanworks, an environmental cleanup and advocacy organization. Cocofloss pledges that for each toothbrush purchase, the company will guarantee 10 brushes worth of plastic that would reach the ocean will be removed. The company plans to keep 18.5 tons of trash from Southeast Asia's coast in the next year.
"At Oceanworks, our goal from day one has been to make it easy for eco-conscious brands like Cocofloss to take part in our larger mission of keeping plastic out of the ocean," said Rob Ianelli, Founder and President of Oceanworks. "Our ability to provide partners with responsibly sourced, authentic, high-quality ocean-bound plastic allows them to confidently go from idea to reality without a hitch. We are incredibly excited about this new partnership with Cocofloss and the net positive impact it will create for both smiles and the sea!"
