The latest version of Planmeca’s all-in-one dental software, Planmeca Romexis 7, is now available for purchase. The new version takes dental imaging to the next level by making AI-powered features available for all users as a standard. By automating routine tasks, Romexis 7 makes daily workflows even smoother and allows users to focus on what truly matters—providing better patient care.
Planmeca Romexis 7 is a groundbreaking new version of the Romexis software that includes built-in AI-powered features as standard. The integrated AI of the software automatically handles routine tasks, which means fewer clicks, simpler software, less routine work, and less time spent on the computer—saving more time for what truly matters: patient care.
The first Romexis 7 release comes with AI-powered 3D imaging tools, such as the automatic recognition and segmentation of patient anatomies, including individual teeth, as well as the automatic detection of the mandibular nerve in CBCT images. These features enable more intuitive and faster use of Romexis and provide excellent visualization of the case for patient education. In addition, CBCT images and intraoral scans are automatically fitted together with the help of AI.
Romexis 7 also revolutionizes implant planning with a fully automated, intelligent workflow that delivers complete implant plan proposals with minimal user input—in as little as 9 seconds. The user simply needs to click a button, specify the implant product line, and Romexis takes care of the rest: it automatically identifies missing teeth, scales virtual crowns to fit the implant areas, and places the implants accordingly. The user is only required to review the proposals and make adjustments if needed.
Thanks to the integration of AI, implant guide design in Romexis 7 is easier and faster than ever, too. The software automatically identifies and defines the area for a surgical guide, generating a guide outline that users can easily refine. In addition, several specialist modules have been enhanced with AI-driven tools, streamlining workflows across various stages of treatment planning. For example, Romexis 7 enables automatic TMJ views and 3D cephalometric analyses through AI-driven landmark detection.
Furthermore, Romexis 7 includes a language model-based smart chat that guides users in operating the software. The virtual assistant provides concise answers to day-to-day software operations using the Romexis manuals and tutorial videos as its source content. Users only need to ask a question, and the virtual assistant provides answers with step-by-step instructions and links to suitable tutorial videos.
“The AI-powered features in Romexis 7 have been developed entirely in-house, which allows us to focus on features that truly matter to Romexis users and respond quickly to user feedback and evolving clinical needs,” says Helianna Puhlin-Nurminen, vice president for digital imaging and software applications at Planmeca. “Initial user feedback has been overwhelmingly positive, showing that our AI effectively optimizes daily work in dental clinics.”
The AI-powered features in Romexis 7 are fully compatible with both Windows and macOS. The processing of patient data using these new AI features takes place locally on the user’s workstation—no information is transmitted to cloud services. The only exception is the AI-powered smart chat, which uses cloud services to provide user instructions and requires an internet connection.
