Fairfax, Virginia-based dental clinic to offer free care in mid-November. The clinic day, called Dental Helping Hands Day, will be held November 13, and offer emergency and preventive care for patients unable to pay at the DentCare Now facility, an urgent dental care clinic.
Dr. Rasheeda Johnson started DentCare Now, a nonprofit organization, with Dr. Patrice Smith, Dr. Patrick Christopher, and lawyers, Sean P. Young and Shannon Edwards. The group has undertaken the mission of providing dental care and education to those underserved through single day mobile events. The upcoming clinic day is the first domestic event after the organization has treated patients in Asia, Africa, and the Caribbean. Clinics are held with the help of local dentists who donate their time.
"We've created this non-profit organization Dental Helping Hands, that's run entirely by volunteers so we can provide dental services free of charge to these people. Dentists can volunteer their time and office space, and anyone can volunteer their time to create fundraising events," said Johnson. "We've been given this amazing gift for helping people and we just want to give back to people in the community, who cannot afford proper dental care," said Johnson, a Dental Helping Hands board member, and DentCare Now dentist. "These people need our help now."
