Compass Laboratory Services has developed an oral rinse to detect high-risk HPV in the oral cavity, OraGen HPV. The human papillomavirus (HPV) is linked to neck and head cancers. More than 25 million Americans are thought to have HPV. Specific subtypes of HPV are thought to increase cancer risk, making detection important.
OraGen HPV genotyping test is intended to detect strains of high-risk HPV. The test can detect HPV 16/18, which is thought to pose the greatest risk for developing head and neck cancer.
