The global market for 3-D dental printing was predicted to reach a value of $8.29 billion over the next 6 years, according to a report by market analysts, Zion Market Research. The market was estimated to be worth about $3.25 billion in 2021 and is expected to grow by a CAGR of 19.8% across the forecast period ending in 2028.
Growth in 3-D printing for dentistry is predicted as more patients are diagnosed with dental diseases, including caries, gum ailments, or issues related to aging. As a result of the higher utilization and access to advanced technologies, 3-D printing in dental care is likely to grow.
As options and technology in dental restoration proliferate, the adoption of technologies like computer-aided design and computer-aided manufacturing (CAD/CAM) are likely to add to growth in the sector. CAD/CAM technologies can be used in developing milled crowns bridges, abutments for dental implants, and other items. Such 3-D printed devices can be customized and made from resins or biocompatible materials.
Patients are also more likely to have disposable income, according to the report, which they can apply to dental care, including digital options like 3-D printing. Commonly, 3-D printing in a dental office can take many forms, including creating dentures and creating models to form aligners.
However, the market may be hindered by a lack of a large workforce of professionals who are experienced with dental 3-D printing technologies, or what is referred to as “additive manufacturing.” At the same time, there is significant upfront cost to purchase 3-D printers and to maintain supply of materials which may limit the growth of the market.
Within the market, when viewed geographically the market was led by the North American region, which held 35% of the share of the market.
